Confused about dinner dress code?

Going on a carnival cruise ( this is our first cruise so we don't know what we are doing ha ha) I've heard there is dress code for dinner anyone know what that is specifically? Can u wear jeans? We have a toddler so fancy doesn't sound fun for us :/
