Financing a ring.........?

Would it be a bad idea to suggest my fiance open a credit card account to finance my ring? He has credit he just doesnt want a credit card. The ring would need to be paid of in 18 months (no interest) and then he could just close the card right? How else would you suggest someone pay for a ring besides cash?
